Two Deaths Confirmed In Cucumber
Salmonella Outbreak

Two people have reportedly died as a result of a salmonella
outbreak linked with cucumbers. The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed a
total of 341 cases directly linked with the cucumbers, which were imported from
Mexico.
The CDC released an official statement on the outbreak.

"Seventy ill people have been hospitalized, and two deaths
have been reported from California and Texas. Arizona, California, Montana, and
Nevada isolated Salmonella from samples of cucumbers collected from various
locations that were distributed by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce,"
the CDC explained.
"Consumers should not eat, restaurants should not serve,
and retailers should not sell recalled cucumbers," they added. "If
you aren't sure if your cucumbers were recalled, ask the place of purchase or
your supplier. When in doubt, don't eat, sell, or serve them and throw them
out."

Children younger than 5 years of age, the elderly, and those people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections. It is estimated that approximately 400 persons in the United States die each year with acute salmonellosis.
